they're high-skillcap as hell
their elite classes gimmick is basically time manipulation
so they can through various means speed up cooldowns
and they get a new shatter ability (a "finishing movie" that consumes their illusions)
that basically after a set amount of time from when you cast it
depending on number of illusions used
will revert your position, health, endurance, cooldowns, etc.
back to where it was during the initial cast
so using that well can be gamebreaking
but also hard in the heat of the moment
they have a LOAD of viable builds too
a power/crit build for pure damage (using greatsword primarily and maybe sword/sword or sword/shield for defense or so on) , a solid condition build that probably does the whole condi thing about as well as a necro (staff, scepter/torch or pistol - it's what I'm using in 5v5), or various versions of like
(edited)
tanky support that partakes in boonsharing
which is built simialr to the condit build with a staff, but instead of focusing on condition damage it focuses on tank stats and boon duration (concentration) and uses sword/shield in weapon swap (for their ability to give lots of invulnerability frames when focused)
that's what I'm using, the whole build is basically about being hard to kill and building HUGE amounts of boons on yourself through various means (quickness being the most rare and important - 50% faster skills/autoattack)
and then sharing them to allies around you
I built that way with the intention of using it in zegs/organized group roaming
I'm not nearly as geared as my dragonhunter yet so I feel slightly less powerful as it stands but I'm also still learning the playstyle, I can see the ways I'm not being optimal with skills
and it's an entirely different set of priorities/positioning in battle to get acclimated to
utility stuff can be insane too
one ability I'd like to try in a small group setting is this one area skill that can give three downed allies new life for 15 seconds
and if they kill someone in that time, they get rezzed for real
you can also do wacky shit like start stomping a downed enemy, use this staff attack that teleports backwards, and then use your targeted blink to go back to them just as the stomp finishes
and it'll still count as successfully killing the enemy
in cases when being where the enemy you wanna stomp is too risky
