it's like MMO player Stockholm syndrome
WE WANT WoW LOOT WAAAAHHHHHHH
sorry but past a point it's cool that most content in the game basically just gives an array of resources one can keep tabs on and watch as they make progress towards the things they actually want
the novelty of some big drops you want wears off after you spend long enough on the loot treadmill
and really it only exists in games like WoW because you're constantly having to replace gear to climb the content
that system is another pro design feature of GW2
Yeah it's only exciting because it means they're that much closer to getting to the next raid tier or outDPSing their guildies in a game like WoW
Aside from gear to increase power in games like that, there's the rare novelty drop but uh
GW2 has a lot of rare novelty drops too
while not needing the stupid constant gear grind that makes RNG loot exciting in worse games
it's like, you know what's better than getting a sword + 47 to replace your sword + 46? Actually being able to do pretty much all of the content within days of hitting the level cap, having enough always-relevant content that you never have to be tired of any one thing, and actually enjoying the gameplay beyond growing numbers
but MMO players are masochists who decided at some point all the shitty time wasting and exploitative genre conventions were things they love and need
People like this are why the genre has been mired for so long in a mix of either shitty WoW ripoffs (in the west) or somehow even more backwards Koreablobs (from the east)
I mean I hope this new wave of western sandbox titles end up exceeding expectation just to hopefully shake things up and increase confidence in new MMO development
I suppose it's ultimately meaningless because ArenaNet won't be shifting their so-far successful formula for some fucko whining on reddit, but yeah it's annoying that so much of the community devoted to the game still may not fully appreciate why this game is good
in general that subreddit is right now kind of full of obnoxious fags bitching about things that aren't really bitch-worthy
either fundamental design choices, or some dude whining that they don't recycle story mission maps for other content enough, or this guy who is angry that there was a collection for the beetle
WE WANT CONTENT NOT COLLECTIONS
uh get this, the collection objectives require you to go through a mix of old and new content
and in general the new chapter had a lot of effort put into it: mount is cool, story was good, map was interesting, and I haven't even tried the new fractal yet
I could get in again in a bit, gotta finish what I'm watching
but yeah progressing the story(/ies) would be good stuff to work on
In general I'd probably just do all of PoF/the current LS before moving to HoT
