This is a bit future-oriented, but if they did adopt a more frequent update model and people ended up being happy with the game, I'd not mind if they found some non-intrusive way to monetize to continue the game as a service kind of thing

because I'd like them to develop this for a long time

I also would like this to do well to maybe somehow influence the industry

I've managed to fly to several hostile planets. Almost die on all of them for lack of resources and found a space station with 4 npcs that you have to guess at random the answers for in hopes you guess correctly

I did find a cool canyon and cave system on this one planet and it was full of resources but I couldn't do anything with them since both myself and my ship was already full

it was only slightly lower during the summer sale (but confidence wasn't that high then)

considering this is the major "renewal" update, I think it's pretty good in context of the full price

there's a chance it goes on sale on steam tomorrow, but can't be sure

figure at most it'll drop to $30 there as it has during past updates

historical lowest was 23.99 on steam in 2017, but I don't think we'll see it that low again for a while if this update delivers

it's pretty fun so far, even though I'm barely started

the clouds and improved procgen seem nice anyhow

aside from improving alt-tab friendliness, the other major thing I'd want changed so far is a fucking settings and exit game button on the initial screen before you load your save, lol

if you do plan to alt tab instead of phoneposting in discord like us guys "in the know" do

highly suggest entering and exiting ship often to save

also in your questlog (P) it'll have step by step shit for everything needed

but yeah after you get the digging thing and find copper, there's just a little bit between there and starting the process to hyperdrive

like basically you build a basic house or w/e and then you get the hyperdrive quest

the main bottleneck I had during the hyperdrive part was figuring out where to get the parts/how to get the units I needed

turns out there's little like circles in the walls at the station (not actually an NPC) you interact with

that are like the primary buy/sell market

and will let you do both of those things

after you get the hyperdrive shit, it doesn't seem like the game really fucks with you much in terms of gathering specific resources for a while at least

do a couple jumps, keep building more antimatter fuel, and everything else seems to open up

It feels like the event was triggered after a set amount of system jumps if not tied to story progression

The event for me was I came out of a hyperdrive jump and was prompted to help a freighter being attacked by like 6 pirates or w/e

And upon killing them, a series of dialogue with the freighter captain had him give me his ship

There was nothing to suggest it would happen at that point in time before the jump

If it helps though, I was jumping along the Atlas Path quest progression

But yeah I nwed like to figure out how to unlock the better base building rooms and the advanced refinery next probs

I see some base shit is available via the blueprint device thing you can build, so maybe they all just end up there as some kind of tiered progression??

S tier scanner upgrade module

Costs a little over 400 nanites

Might have to go to a few stations before you find one

Id get other upgrade modules first though

Anyways the money cheese is go to space station buy enriched carbon and semiconductor (or the mats to make them up to you) use those to craft a super conductor and profit

The two items are relatively cheap and the superconductor sells for 2 million

But still highly recommend playing the game properly and not going ham and getting yourself billions though that

and yeah, the upgrades do need to be rebought or recrafted, but before you have access to s-rank endgame stuff anyhow I don't think there's a great reason to go wild on the upgrades (edited)

just the base functions you need, and maybe the S-rank scanner upgrade because it's the least cheat-y but still most bullshit easy way to earn money by just exploring shit (edited)

as said earlier, the exception is the suit since it doesn't get replaced, but at the same time you'll probably need to expand its tech tab at stations anyhow to have a decent grid to work with if you were trying to optimize synergies and shit

Luckily the combo or portals, discovery map and half assed memory I can usually figure out where I need to go
