Taylor doing "Tech support" on ASUKA.

The WIDESERVER Project originally referred to the plan to use a HP ProLiant DL385p G8 donated by Quornes to host gaming servers and other vital infrastructure for WIDEVERSE, but later evolved to refer to the array of servers now used.

History

The history of server hosting in WIDEVERSE stretches all the way back to 2011 when Taylor hosted a small Minecraft server for the few members still active via Hamachi. Other incarnations of self hosting sporadically popped up through the years, most notably in the form of The Wonkas Starbound server, but no truly centralized option existed.

In Summer of 2021 when it was announced that Taylor's office would be getting a fiber upgrade within the next year, planning began to create a bare metal solution that would allow hosting of whatever was required. The key piece came in October when Quornes offered to donate a full server to the cause. By December, the server was delivered and set up in the Wide Media Group office.

On December 2nd, fiber was finally installed at the datacenter, and a week later on the 8th, networking was finally completed, bringing the array online to the public. While the AMP game panel was intended to launch the same day, technical difficulties forced most of its operations to ABIGAIL in the intermediate.
