The Final Bop is a theoretical disaster wherein WIDEVERSE is systemically deplatformed across multiple sites and services.
History
Fear of mass deplatforming first became a concern to WIDEVERSE brass in August of 2017 in the wake of the Unite the Right Rally when Discord began banning Right Wing Discords. Most admins assumed WIDEVERSE would be safe because of the mild content that the Discord was hosting. However, over the next few years as Discord became more willing to ban Discords for anything from hating cops to merely questioning the current narrative of the COVID outbreak, concern grew that WIDEVERSE could be in trouble by relying on Discord entirely.
Prevention
The first line of defense was deployed in late 2018 in the form of the BMW Fallout Shelter, a Mumble and IRC server running continuously in the event of Discord being banned. This proved not as effective due to nobody using IRC anymore except massive grognards.
A more permanent solution appeared in May of 2021 when Prude unveiled the BEEFYBOYS.club project, a self hosted Fediverse instance.
Some within the community however see The Final Bop not as something to be prevented, but welcomed, to finally move The WIDEVERSE away from the toxic and dead end ecosystem of The Internet and into a centralized real life setting.
